As a Mom & a teacher I tend to think I need to always be teaching Charlotte. Making sure she knows her site words & how to "chunk" unknown words. Practicing math facts & asking her to "explain her thinking"- insert head in hand emoji... Ugh- I overthink situations & how they may bring on questions that she might have & how these "situations" will make her uncomfortable. I think about to respond to certain uncomfortable questions...questions that never arise bc Charlotte is not the one who was uncomfortable.
You see, as Charlotte continues to grow up & change & evolve & explore I am the one learning...I am learning A LOT, from Charlotte; from the way she is "learning" & figuring out the world. From her friendships & her struggles with friendships. From all of the questions she asks. From the way that she investigates relationships & the world around her.
I have learned that:
A good friend is someone who likes the same things as you do, plays your favorite games at recess & shares their snack.
The best clothes are the ones that are fun, sparkly & don't itch.
Showers are best when you have bubbles.
It is more fun to dance around the kitchen than clean up after dinner.
Fruit is better than candy.
People like hand written notes better than store bought cards on their Birthday & everyday.
Cuddling on Friday night is the perfect ending to a long week.
Drink chocolate milk whenever possible.
To be fair- I do think that site words & math facts are important & I will always try to foresee what questions Charlotte may have about new situations so that I am ready to answer the best way possible- But I will now take a few steps back & watch her, see how she navigates the world & handles new & different situations bc she is teaching me new things everyday & I am realizing that she has So Much to teach me...
