Well, this doesn't always fly well with Charlotte, my First Grader, and every time there is any type of parent invited gathering at school- from the Thanksgiving feast to field day we end up having the same conversation about why I can't be there and although she totally "gets" that I am at MY School with my students we still both feel "yucky" about the fact that I am unable to attend. (luckily I have Awesome Mommy friends who always hang with my girl and send me the best photos of her having a great time!)
So, when Charlotte came home talking about the "Mystery Readers" that were visiting her classroom- and when I say "talking about" I mean EVERY night she was crying and asking me IF I was ever going to be the mystery reader...Every Night! I Knew that this was IT- This I could do!! So, I tricked her into picking a book, grabbed myself a box of Oreos- because Oreos are technically vegan so ALL kids can eat them- and off to East Quogue School I went.
You Guys, I had NO Idea how magical this event was going to be. When I was announced by her teacher (The Awesome Mrs. Bellucci) and walked into the classroom all of the kids were sitting on the rug, Char was in the back and she came running over to me hugged me and ...started crying- and guess what I did- YUP, you guessed it- I started crying. Obviously we both got ourselves together, kind of...and Char sat next to me as I read he book "Oh, The Places You'll go," by Dr Seuss to a bunch of First Graders- they were the BEST audience! They all listened so well and asked the BEST questions and Charlotte was SO proud! Then we all had Oreos and Char left with me. She was so excited and told her teacher and classmates that this was "The Best Day Ever!"
You See, even though I always knew that I was going to be a Mom to a daughter and I knew how much I was going to love her- or at least I knew I was going to love her A LOT- I had no idea how incredible that Love was going to be and I had NO Idea how much she was going to love me. I am so FAR from the perfect parent, but as far as Charlotte is concerned I am "The BEST Mama in the whole wide world" and that means the Everything to me!
